Denoise

The VEGAS Denoise plugin allows you to reduce both luminance (brightness) and chrominance (color) noise in video footage. It provides controls for targeted noise reduction and sharpening, making it possible to retain edge detail while enhancing overall video quality. This plugin utilizes a Non-Local Means algorithm, which preserves edges but can be computationally intensive.

USE CASES
  • Improving the quality of low-light footage with high noise levels

  • Minimizing color noise in high-ISO footage

  • Enhancing video clarity by sharpening edges post-denoising

FIGURE Denoise

Adjust the Luminance and Chrominance sliders in small increments to avoid overly smooth or artificial-looking results.

Use the Sharpen slider sparingly, as excessive sharpening may introduce artifacts or unnatural edges.

For high-noise footage, consider increasing both sliders moderately for balanced noise reduction and clarity enhancement.

Element Description
Luminance Slider Controls the reduction of brightness noise, which often appears as graininess. Adjusting this slider helps smooth out luminance inconsistencies while preserving image details.
Chrominance Slider Controls the reduction of color noise, often noticeable as random color speckles. This setting is useful for footage with color blotches or high-ISO artifacts.
Sharpen Slider While the Non-Local Means algorithm retains edge detail, the Sharpen slider allows additional sharpening adjustments to make edges appear more realistic after denoising. Increasing this slider enhances edge contrast, which can improve visual clarity, especially in high-resolution videos.

If the denoising process is slow, ensure that your system meets the recommended specifications for VEGAS Pro, as the Non-Local Means algorithm is computationally intensive. Lowering the preview quality may improve performance during editing.
